Welcome to North Pemba Region

North Pemba is one of the two districts of Pemba North Region in Tanzania. It is bordered to the north by Micheweni Region, to the east by the Indian Ocean, to the south by Pemba South Region and to the west by the Indian Ocean.

The district covers an area of approximately 574 square kilometers and is home to a population of about 95,000 people according to the 2012 Tanzania National Census.

The North Pemba Region is the administrative body responsible for delivering services and implementing development projects in the district. The council is committed to promoting sustainable development and improving the livelihoods of all residents through transparent governance and community participation.

Our History

Key milestones in the development of North Pemba Region government.

1964

Independence and Formation

Following the Zanzibar Revolution, North Pemba became part of the newly formed government structure in Pemba Island.

1972

Region Formation

North Pemba was officially designated as a district with its own administrative structure to better serve the local population.

1985

First Water Project

The district government implemented its first major water supply project, providing clean water to thousands of residents.

1995

Infrastructure Development

Major road construction projects were initiated, significantly improving transportation within the district.

2005

Education Reform

The district implemented comprehensive education reforms, building new schools and improving the quality of education.

2015

Digital Government Initiative

North Pemba Region launched its digital government initiative to improve service delivery and citizen engagement.

2023

Circular Economy Program

Launch of the comprehensive waste management and circular economy program to create a cleaner, more sustainable district.
